Introduction

Father’s day is becoming a worldwide festival in the last few years. It is celebrated on the variety of days across the world.  It is celebrated to honor fathers and parents. It is celebrated by gifting greeting cards, artificial flowers, bouquets any many other gifts. It is celebrated to pay gratitude and to show respect for fathers.

History

It was first celebrated in 1909. The idea of celebrating this day was given by MS Sonora Louise Smart Dodd, a loving daughter from Spokane USA. Sonora was very much attached to her father Mr. William Jackson Smart. He was a civil war veteran. She felt that if there is a day to honor mother there should also be a day to honor father. Thus the idea of celebrating this day was born. Sonora struggled hard to convert this idea into reality. Finally in 1972, President Richard Nixon made father’s day a national observance. From that day Father’s Day is celebrated all over the world once in a year.

Importance

Observance of Father’s day provides an opportunity for every child to show their love and respect for their fathers. A father has the same importance in a child’s life that a mother has. Children have to depend on their fathers for their emotional, physical, financial and social well being. By celebrating Father’s Day children comes closer to their fathers.
Celebration
Most of the people start preparation of father’s day in advance. Some of them prepare hand-made cards for their fathers. Some tries to find a suitable gift for them. Those who live away from their fathers has an opportunity to spend this whole day with their fathers. Thus Father’s Day can be called as an occasion for reunion.

Branding of Father’s Day in India

In India the occasion of Father’s Day has become a festival. People celebrate this festival with great enthusiasm. Moreover some companies have branded this day to promote their products as Father’s Day Gifts like Pen Stands, Diaries, Gift Pen Stands, Watches and Goggals etc.
People from India have also welcomed this scenario. They love to buy these gifts for their fathers. Young generation loves to celebrate Father’s Day with their families having party and fun together.

Conclusion


Like other famous festivals the Father’s Day is also getting attention of the people. They love to celebrate this day like they do on Diwali, New Year and Christmas. However it is believed that one day is not enough to pay your respect to fathers of parents.
